STRANGLER WAS ON RUN FROM JAIL
Convicted killer murdered gay lover in Belgravia hotel
A CONVICTED murderer who strangled a Brazilian student on Valentine’s Day was on the run from a Scottish prison, an inquest heard.
Serial strangler Roderick MacDonald “walked out” of Castle Huntley open prison in April 2005.
He had been given a life sentence for killing his wife and had a dark history of attempted murder by choking his victims.
He killed his lover, Acioli Pariz-Junior, from Regent’s Park, on Valentine’s Day earlier this year in the Westminster House Hotel, Belgravia.
Hotelier Dafydd Dwilyn Jones found the corpse tucked-up in bed with two stab wounds to the stomach.
Westminster coroner Dr Paul Knapman said Mr Junior died from “asphyxiation and compression to the neck”.
He added: “He (MacDonald) moved to an open prison in 2005 and just walked out. “How a convicted murderer ends up in an open prison is anyone’s guess.”
Tuesday’s inquest heard how 29-year-old Mr Pariz-Junior, who worked as a dog walker and a cleaner for wealthy households in Belgravia, met MacDonald in a gay sauna in Blackpool.
MacDonald was due to stand trial after denying murder, claiming he stabbed Pariz-Junior in self-defence. But the case was closed after he “strangled himself” in Brixton Prison in February using torn bed sheets.
He left a suicide note to Mr Pariz-Junior’s family.
It read: “He loved me as I loved him – please forgive me in your heart.”
DI Colin Wetherall, Homicide and Serious Crimes Commander for the Met Police, said Mr Pariz-Junior had tried to end the relationship – favouring another lover he met on the internet living in Regent’s Park.
He said: “MacDonald was a jilted lover. “We caught him after he fled to Brighton following the attack. MacDonald admitted to the killing before he hung himself – and, in my opinion, it is very likely he committed murder in anger at being rejected.” |
