Alien ideas in home of Magna Carta
• IN his Forum article (Deporting immigrants is simply not the answer, May 11), Austen Iverleigh proposes that illegal immigrants should be “legalised” and allowed to remain in the UK.
As an ethnic Englishman in the capital city of my own country, I object strongly to any such action, even though I am aware that the political treachery that has abandoned our borders and our right to self-regulation has produced a situation that even promotes the omission of the words ‘English’ and ‘England’ from official documents.
In the previous century, the people of these small islands were subjected to immense loss of life in the cause of freedom, in particular that of other nations to forge ahead with their own futures.
Yet, instead, millions have chosen to abandon their own nations and cross numerous borders, often illegally, to seek advantage here, aided and abetted by the misguided among us who advise and protect them at every turn.
In short, we are now seen as an ‘easy touch’ and it is probably no coincidence that a number of their more vociferous supporters are themselves the immediate descendants of recent immigrants to this country. Check out a few well-known politicians.
Mr Iverleigh cites the example of Spain “legalising” 700,000 illegals in 2005. But Spain occupies an area of 504,747 km, the UK a mere 204,022 – with England boasting a pitiful 130,368km. And while Spain’s population (in 1991) was 38,872,268 – that of the UK (in 1992) was 48,378,300. The latest estimates put the UK population at nearer 60,000,000.
Mr Iverleigh must be encouraged by the knowledge that the present bunch in power long ago gave up representing the people of this country in favour of pursuing their futures with foreign interests that refuse to be accountable as we know and understand it in this home of Magna Carta.
