£55m for Tube CCTV office
A CCTV office has been set up in Oxford Circus Tube station as part of a £55 million revamp.
More than 64 million people using the station each year will be filmed in crystal-clear clarity.
Metronet, responsible for two-thirds of the Tube, has digitalised its CCTV system.
When the modernisation is complete there will be almost double the number of security cameras, providing complete coverage of all public areas at the underground station.
Metronet chief programmes officer Stephen Hall said: “What has been remarkable is our project staff’s ability to do this work almost entirely during the short three-and-a-half hours each night when the station is closed – all to avoid disrupting the 64 million passengers who pass through it each year.”
