Attacker slashes young tourist

A YOUNG tourist had her neck slashed while walking along the Edgware Road.
A taxi driver spotted the unprovoked attack on the 12-year-old girl.
He drove her to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, where she had an emergency operation.
Det Insp Paul Armstrong, from Paddington CID, said: “When they reached the junction near Burwood Place the suspect approached the victim from behind and pushed her head to one side.
“He then slashed her across the neck with a sharp instrument.
“The family were tourists in London, who had only arrived that day and were simply making their way back to their hotel after an evening out.
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this unprovoked attack to contact police with information.”
Police said the attacker, who is believed to be a tall man, aged about 30, with short black hair and wearing a dark leather jacket, ran off towards Harrowby Street.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Paddington Green police station.
He has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the CID at Paddington Green police station on 020 7321 8501, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
