Rolex robbery yields £250,000
A DARING daylight raid on a Mayfair jewellers netted scooter thieves a cool quarter of a million pounds in Rolex watches.
Dozens of stunned bystanders witnessed the motorbike gang using sledgehammers to smash their way into the buzzer-entry Art and Antiques shop in Blenheim Street at 10 o’clock on Thursday morning (31).
While three of the six-strong gang waited outside on the three scooters, another three men smashed glass cabinets containing watches – mostly Rolexes - worth £250,000 and grabbed the contents.
In less than three minutes the thieves were out of the shop. They jumped onto the backs of the waiting bikes and made off towards Oxford Street.
The attack comes just a fortnight after a similar scooter gang was arrested with stolen goods in Islington, prompting hopes that the spree, which has cut a sway through Mayfair’s exclusive boutiques, was at an end.
Anybody with any information about the incident is advised to call the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111. |
