Firefighters out in force for Gay Pride
THOUSANDS marched through the streets of central London for the annual Gay Pride festival on Friday.
They walked from Baker Street to Trafalgar Square where entertainment was hosted by presenters including Graham Norton and actor John Barrowman.
Organisers insisted the event would go ahead as normal despite Friday’s car bomb alerts.
Main stage performers included ex-Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes and 1980s pop star Jimmy Somerville.
There were also performances from West End shows Wicked and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph.
In Soho Fire Station 140 guests from the London Fire Brigade tucked into a special breakfast before the event.
The breakfast has become an annual event for London’s gay firefighters. “What a great day the LGBT members of staff from the London Fire Brigade and other fire brigades had at this year’s Pride,” said crew manager Norman Perry. “Being ‘openly gay’ in the London Fire Brigade no longer has a stigma attached to it. Its great that the Brigade values its diverse workforce.” |
