Do we need so many events?
THERE seems no escape from these open-air events. Like it or not, we seem stuck with them.
Just what is the relevance of this? The reason for this activity in the middle of London, again disrupting traffic, taking police away from more important law and order issues, when we in our area find it difficult to get police to attend anti-social problems, quite frankly escapes me. Yes, apparently it is 60 years since India got independence etc etc, but is it necessary to adopt Trafalgar Square for the whole day? On another point, one wonders as to how many of those attending this event were actually British and what their motives were in attending this event. I do not recall a Scottish event when that same country received the privilege of devolution, nor would
I expect one!
However, should
that country receive independence, heaven help them! I should look forward to a similar celebration!
