Christmas lights go up just a shade early
THE Christmas lights in Oxford Street went up – but don’t panic, it was just a test run.
With 155 days to go technicians from Essex-based Piggotts, the oldest suppliers of Christmas decorations in the country, measured up the display outside John Lewis.
This year’s illuminations use eco-efficient bulbs that consume 75 per cent less energy. The West End Christmas Lights will also be carbon off-set.
Piggotts’ managing director Nick McLaren said: “Each year, it takes us a total of 41 days to put up and take down the million lights that are used to illuminate all three streets. Our guys will be putting them up knowing that we are carbon off-setting and using the most energy efficient bulbs available.” |
