Bollywood square festival date
A FESTIVAL of outdoor dance, theatre and spectacle from the sub-continent comes to Trafalgar Square this August.
This year’s Trafalgar Square Festival sees central London transformed into an Indian city. It includes a dance extravaganza of ballet, poetry, aerial dance, traditional Indian bell-ringing from performers suspended from a crane.
A Bollywood-style spectacle will see a giant canvas painted live by Mumbai poster painters, who will reimagine London as an Indian city at the foot of Nelson’s Column.
The Bangalore-based Attakkalari Centre, will evoke the sights and sounds of Indian streets, including choreography on motor scooters.
Scores of authentic acts will dazzle the free event in the square from August 2 to 19.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: “The sixth Trafalgar Square Festival is very much a highlight and guarantees to be nothing short of spectacular. This year’s programme reflects and celebrates the distinctive Indian culture through dance, theatre, music and visual art offering a fantastic way to spend summer evenings.”
