Thames floods - A sign of things to come? |
Fears over Thames flooding
FEARS that the Thames could burst its banks have led to a major review of flood defences in Westminster.
Iconic landmarks – including the Houses of Parliament, Whitehall and MI5 – could be submerged and thousands of homes are at risk, the council warned.
The Stategic Flood Risk report has sounded alarm bells over an impending disaster and Brian Blake, Westmisnter’s head of contingency planning, leading the investigation, stressed urgent preventive measures were crucial.
He said: “Our job is to look at the worst case scenario and develop, plan and deal with it.” |
