West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Some help to ‘escape’ from the fun in Trafalgar Square

• IF we are to believe Mr Walker (Do we need so many events?, August 3), there is “no escape” from the summer events held in Trafalgar Square.
“No escape” in a city the size of London? Who is Mr Walker
trying to kid?
Naturally, however, if one chooses to frequent the one place where these events take place, then yes, escape may be difficult – so why go there, Mr Walker?
Fortunately, for the more enlightened Londoner and the throng of visitors, the grandly theatrical setting of Trafalgar Square provides an unrivalled venue in which to savour and learn about the
cultures of other lands which these events showcase.
Mercifully, for the greater good of our city, the isolated
gripes of a killjoy minority are outweighed by the pleasure derived by the majority from the summer shows, each of which adds to the stature of London as the ultimate world city.
Too many events? No! Let’s have more!
