Care unit to move
RENAL services at St Mary’s have moved to Hammersmith following the merger of the two hospitals.
The services will be replaced by a critical care unit at Paddington Hospital, due to be completed next summer.
The new £15 million intensive care unit (ICU) will give the most seriously ill patients a better quality care.
It is to be built on the ninth floor of the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother building where the vacant renal wards used to be.
The floor will be stripped to the core and the new ICU will be more than twice the size of the current unit, built 20 years ago.
Dr Richard Leonard, ICU service director, said: “The new unit will make it a much better environment for patients, staff and visitors.”
Funding for the project is being provided by the Department of Health. |
