‘Safety first’ is the golden rule for honor blackman
ACTRESS Honor Blackman – famed for setting temperatures racing as Bond girl Pussy Galore in Goldfinger – has launched a campaign to get fire alarms fitted in old people’s homes.
The actress, who is playing at the Lyric in Cabaret, has backed the London Fire Brigade’s older people’s strategy aiming to protect the elderly from fire and train older Londoners to help the emergency services.
Ms Blackman, speaking at the Commonwealth Club in Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday, said: “The ability to keep ourselves safe from harm is something that’s easy to take for granted. It is only after a tragedy has occurred that we realise we should have been better prepared. “So, as a Londoner, I’d like to thank the organisations in this room who look after the welfare of people across the city.”
Two thirds of fire deaths involve the over-60s and 90 per cent of these deaths occur in the home.
