Pupils join MP on educational trip to Nazi death camp in Auschwitz
PUPILS from schools in Westminster were joined by Regent’s Park and Kensington North Labour MP Karen Buck on a trip to the Nazi death camp Auschwitz on Monday.
She was part of a 200-strong group taken to Poland by the Holocaust Educational Trust, and Ms Buck joined students from Francis Holland and South Hampstead schools to the infamous site of the mass murder of more than 1.5m people. She said: “The enormity of crimes committed here really hits home when you physically see it.”
She was joined by Rabbi Barry Marcus, who works at the West London synagogue. At the end of an emotional day he conducted a service of remembrance in the camp. He said: “Those who forget history are destined to repeat it.
History is a race between education and catastrophe.” |
