Bid to save reading group
A PROMINENT schools campaigner is backing a campaign to save a pioneering reading group in a Queen’s Park nursery.
Katie Ivens believes The Butterfly Reading Group in the Mozart Estate – which she set up – is under threat following government funding cuts. The founder of the Campaign for Real Education was this year named as one of the 1,000 most influential in a London newspaper poll.
The scheme teaches 150 children to read through phonics in classes and adults literacy and English.
Ms Ivens said: “We badly need donations.”
Joanne Cash, Tory Parliamentary candidate for Westminster North, said: “Katie Ivens and her team of volunteers provide the young people of Harrow Road and Queen’s Park with an opportunity to improve their education and life chances, an opportunity which many other children up and down the country do not have.” |
