West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 26 October 2007
Why this green space must be preserved
• AS one of the supporters who attended the recent photoshoot for the article which appeared in the West End Extra (Pitched battle over park’s threatened meadows, October 12), I can only say that it is a disgrace and even criminal to destroy natural parkland in order to line the pockets of those who have no interest in unspoilt beauty, just their own bank balances!
Going to the park that morning on a damp but bright autumn day, I can only say that the colour and variety of the trees and the peace and quiet provided in the middle of a busy city was priceless.
We must not allow such areas to be lost.
Sebastian Coe is misguided in believing this is about sports facilities, it is purely a commercial venture. Surely there are other derelict areas where such facilities, plus the necessary car parks etc, can be sited?
Don’t shame yourselves by letting us down, Westminster. Gill King
