Let’s dig deep for a new pool
• AS a former governor of Pimlico School, I was saddened to see that not one councillor on the special planning committee which met on October 17 to consider the rebuilding of the school commented on the fact that there is no provision to replace the school’s excellent and much-loved swimming pool.
At a time when we are becoming increasingly aware of the growing dangers of childhood obesity, and in the run-up to the London Olympics in 2012, the loss of an inner-London swimming pool is regrettable, and borders on the negligent.
The former governors of the school were aware that under the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme there were no funds to replace the school’s swimming pool.
However, before we were sacked in January, we were actively seeking alternative sources of finance.
This work has not been followed up by Westminster’s BSF team, and I can only assume that in their headlong rush to push through the controversial rebuilding of this school that there has been no time to either consult the parents or seek alternative finance to replace the swimming pool.
