Student chefs learn about the new diploma in Gordon’s kitchen
GORDON Brown got a taste of life at Westminster Kingsway College when he met a class of teenage chefs on Monday.
Accompanied by secretaries of state for schools and universities Ed Balls and John Denham, the Prime Minister told the pupils of the Victoria campus about plans to raise the minimum age for leaving education from 16 to 18.
The Prime Minister watched chefs chopping up chickens and spoke to students about their experiences of vocational courses.
Principal Andy Wilson, said: “There has to be a range of opportunities so that it isn’t just seen as staying at school, with students given the proper advice and guidance about qualifications. We are very enthusiastic about the new diploma but schemes like this (the GNVQ) are educational and practical and you need a range to persuade young people they should stay on.” |
