Fears on new store site
A PLAN to open a new store in Lisson Grove has attracted more than 1,000 signatures in protest.
The Tesco Express proposal went before committee last night (Thursday) with councillors backing it.
Opponents fear the Lisson Grove Shopping Centre will not be able to compete with the supermarket, which would open until 11pm. Martin Thompson, who lives nearby, said: He said: “This would be Tesco’s ninth store in just a one-mile radius of the new store they want to open on the corner of Lisson Grove and Hayes Place.
Tesco has pledged £100,000 to Church Street community leaders if the deal goes through. They will pay for CCTV and work with the jobcentre to offer training if the scheme goes ahead. |
