West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 30 November 2007
Email was dished out too quickly
• I AM disappointed, Councillor Richardson, that you emailed a letter to the press at 9:17 GMT on the November 20, knowing full well that Pimlico NUT were due to have a meeting later the same day with senior managers at 2pm, in the hope of negotiating a longer lunch break, and thus avoid industrial action. Despite alleged intimidation from Pimlico’s head not to take industrial action, 23 out of 33 teachers voted to do so. That is nearly 70 per cent. You are disappointed that a small minority, 23 out of total 140 teachers are “holding the school to ransom” by striking, yet there was no clear majority telling you they wanted a change to the school day timing, with the current half hour lunch break. According to figures in Pimlico’s last newsletter, only 170 parents and staff replied.
Also we were told that these figures included phone calls, so there is no hard copy; who knows what the result really was.
Meanwhile, only 12 people (4 per cent) voted for Pimlico to become an academy; what do you say about that statistic Councillor Richardson!
