Diverted buses ‘a serious risk’

DOZENS of double-decker buses have been wrongly diverted down a quiet St John’s Wood for months.
The westbound 31 bus has plagued residents of Carlton Hill since it was diverted there in the summer.
Because of weight restrictions banning heavy vehicles in the street residents say Transport for London is acting “above the law”.
Resident Omer Akyol said: “Carlton Hill has a weight restriction of 7.5 tons, but London buses weigh over 12 tons when laden.
“My two children aged seven and four, along with other residents of our rather narrow street, as well the school children from Quintin Kynaston are at serious risk.”
Transport for London had planned to end the diversion by November 23. A spokeswoman said: “This diversion was thoroughly assessed before it was introduced. Other roads in this area were not chosen due to obstacles.”
