Students get warmed up for mass climate change demonstration
DRESSED in an array of Christmas costumes, 70 students laid siege to Parliament with banners, climate-themed Christmas carols, and a list of environmental demands from Santa himself.
The demonstration, involving students from University College London, was to raise awareness of a mass climate change demonstrations taking place in central London this weekend.
Organiser Richard Roaf, a UCL student, said: “Students are more environmentally aware than ever before. We know we will have to live with the effects of a damaged planet. “This Christmas the best present we can give future generations is a strong climate bill and move toward a new international climate agreement.”
Saturday’s demonstration is part of unified global protests ahead of UN climate talks in Bali to demand urgent action from world leaders. It leaves the Millbank at midday, marking past Downing Street and ending at the US embassy at 1pm.
In November last year 30,000 people gathered in Trafalgar Square to demand action on climate change. |
