Library has many friends

A HISTORIC library is hoping to attract more teenage readers through the popular networking website Facebook.
Victoria library managers have created an “identity” for the historic Georgian building on the internet inviting bookworms to “make friends” with other internet users.
The library, which is run by Westminster Council, lists its political affiliation as “other” and is interested in making friends and networking with both men and women.
Librarian Andrew Stoter, who entered the library on Facebook, said: “I got the idea from an American university library which is using Facebook to reach out to its student body.
“In signing the library up I had to enter details like name and sex. I tried to give it a date of birth of 1894, when the library opened, but the site wouldn’t let me go that far back.
He added: “I’ll be inviting famous bookworms like Mariella Frostrup, Jilly Cooper and JK Rowling to become her friend.”
Councillor Danny Astaire, said: “It could work wonders for technology savvy young people.”
