West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 18 January 2008
Animals knock the stuffing out
• REALLY, really good news, truly sickening in-your-face grot news.
You turn a corner and crash, bang, wallop.
The Extra Diary heroic pigeons report was pure sunshine (War heroes or winged vermin? January 11).
I turned a few more corners inside Bonham’s New Bond Street labyrinthine auction showrooms and eventually discovered our heroic pigeon paintings displayed in “The Animal Room”. A lady member of staff advised that Bonham’s Animal Room auctions happen about once a year.
Another lady staffer on the way out cringed and pulled a face saying that the room was truly creepy and distasteful.
There were a number of nice items in addition to the heroic pigeon paintings. To get to them at the far end you had to thread a path between many tiger-skin floor covernings complete with their trip-over heads and fully bared teeth.
And the walls all round were weighted down with blatant animal trophy-shoot stags and other animals heads. What a sickening, totally unheroic scenario in which to have to venture to view our pigeon heroes. IAN CAMERON
