Soho action wins support
PLANS to open the country’s largest “one-stop-shop” for the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender have got the thumbs up from council chiefs.
Based on a San Francisco model, the proposed Soho service will offer health and social care services, business support and an exhibition space.
The scheme has been proposed as part of the Soho Action Plan.
Other proposals include creating a virtual museum to showcase Soho’s vibrant history and a £25 million plan to revamp the 1930s Grade II listed Marshall Street baths into a modern leisure centre.
Regeneration projects to reinforce Berwick Street as Soho’s local high street and regenerate Ham Yard and Great Windmill Street with better community facilities and increased support for small businesses are included in the action plan.
The action plan has widespread support from Soho’s 4,000 residents, according to the council, as well as local businesses.
All residents and businesses in Soho will be receiving brief details of the plan. |
