West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 8 February 2008
Trouble with dogs
• I AM glad that we are not the sole sufferers (It’s the war on terrier! February 1). Not that makes any of us feel that much better. But we on the Dalgarno Peabody Estate have had a problem with an over abundance of dogs for many years. That makes little difference to the trust, which simply turns a blind-eye to any tenant keeping a dog despite regulations which state they are prohibited .
Perhaps someone’s human rights are being infringed.
There is a distinct lack of space where these animals can be freely exercised.
The walkways in the area are covered in dog excrement. I have complained on several occasions to the “powers that be” so shall keep my fingers crossed for some solution.
To make matters worse, the iniquitous football cage on our estate – again a constant magnet for anti-social behaviour – contributes to the problem by conveniently providing a “short-cut” for tenants of other estates to which they can bring their dogs for exercise and other “recreation”, if you know what I mean.
It is high time that the dog licence was reinstated in order that dog ownership encourages dog responsibility also.
