Children from St John’s Wood with the Dalai Lama’s UK man Tsering Tashi and Sarah Reynolds |
Date with dalai Lama’s deputy for children
REFUGEE and asylum-seeking children from St John’s Wood met the Dalai Lama’s UK representative this week, writes Jamie Welham.
Tsering Tashi was in town for half-term to learn from the experiences of refugee children in the UK in a bid to improve relations between Tibetans and Chinese youngsters in south east Asia. The meeting took place at St John’s Wood adventure playground, which has developed a programme called ‘Have Some Faith in Play’ to help children integrate into London life.
Sarah Reynolds, manager of Salusbury World Refugee Centre said: “Cultural and religious identities are paramount for refugees and transmitting these from one generation to the next, when living as a diaspora community is vitally important. This is the Tibetan experience and challenge from which we can all learn.” |
