In praise of the plastic carrier bag
• PLASTIC carrier bags are getting a very bad press. Even our Prime Minister has joined the bandwagon to ban them, as has M&S. I myself like them. I find them enormously useful.
When paper bags came in there was a movement to ban them too.
The problem is surely simply that our government has failed to make any arrangement at all to recycle them. There’s the rub. I’m landed with hundreds of them, which I have carefully collected for reuse, only to find that nobody wants them, and there’s nowhere to take them for melting down. So I am landed with them littering up valuable space in my miniature flat. Blame poor government, not naughty bags...
