Mayor Carolyn Keen, The Duchess of Devonshire and Alan Bradley dig in |
Green Harley Street branches out
HARLEY Street has become a tree-lined boulevard following a historic planting ceremony.
Volunteers, including the Duchess of Devonshire, Westminster Lord Mayor Carolyn Keen and Councillor Alan Bradley helped plant 48 Chanticleer Pear trees along the length of the famous medics’ address.
But there’s no need for hard hats or standby ambulances because these pear trees don’t bear fruit.
The American species produces a spring bloom of white flowers.
It became the largest street-planting scheme to take place in Westminster and was given the go-ahead by the council after the success of smaller projects in Wimpole and Devonshire streets.
The £150,000 makeover was funded by The London Clinic as part of their development of a new cancer centre. |
