Trader Paul finally proves himself the top market force
A FORMER goldsmith has been crowned Market Trader of the Year.
It was third time lucky for greengrocer Paul Stein, 46, who finally scooped the top prize after twice being a losing finalist.
Mr Stein, who has run a fruit stall in Oxford Street for 25 years, was praised by judges for his “lovely, gentle way” with customers.
He fought off strong competition from 500 nominees to win the £2,000 prize.
Mr Stein said: “I felt honoured to be a finalist so I’m absolutely elated to win.
“I’m hoping this will boost sales for me and all the other traders in Oxford Street. There is a lot of competition from supermarkets nowadays but market stalls have much fresher produce and the personal touch when it comes to customer service, so I still think we have something valuable to offer.” |
