False profits and why I’ve lost faith in religious schools
• NEWS across in Kensington that religious organisations are putting business interests before community needs, charging market prices for use of their facilities, makes one think of the national news which exposed how a large number of faith schools are breaking the law by putting unfair monetary pressure on families to obtain places in their schools.
The recent annual conference of the Alliance for Green Socialism passed a motion for an end to faith schools because of their narrowness and inequalities and for secular education. My wife, a primary school teacher, spoke of her experience on secondary transfer committees and how faith schools tried to take a higher percentage of the perceived more able children.
Faith schools divide the community, not bring it together, and, as for market prices, was it not one of their members who drove the merchants out of the temple? Eddie Adams
