Shopkeepers warned on knives after sales to under-age children
SHOPKEEPERS have been warned not to sell knives to children after a 14-year-old Paddington Academy pupil was stabbed to death.
Amro Elbadawi died after suffering knife wounds to the throat in Dart Street near his home in Queen’s Park on March 27.
His friend later handed himself into the police.
Westminster Council and the Met Police have conducted a joint undercover operation targeting retailers who sell knives to children.
Trading standards officers and uniformed police followed two teenagers around Harrow Road on a number of test purchases within several hardware and discount stores.
Two of the premises visited sold Stanley knives to the youngsters and were subsequently issued with warnings.
Since May 2007 12 premises have been caught selling knives to under-age children.
The company and individual seller are liable for breaches of the law and could face a £5,000 fine or six months in jail. |
