A LABOURER died after intervening in a vicious assault on New Year’s Eve, an inquest heard.

CCTV footage showed Mr Pieknik trying to break up the scuffle.
Mr Pieknik’s, who was Polish, confronted one of them and was punched in the face. Less than two minutes later, he collapsed in the foyer of the Park Lane Hotel Westminster Coroner’s Court heard. A post-mortem revealed that he had been drinking and he had a rare heart disorder.
There was no bruising to his face, and police believe the punch was incidental in his death. No one faces charges.
Coroner Dr Paul Knapman recorded death by misadventure and said: “It was a tragic… combination of a bad heart, alcohol and emotion. Sometimes we need people to intervene although in this case it was probably unwise.” |
