West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 18 July 2008
Playing the school game
• PIMLICO School has come out of special measures… how convenient for Westminster. The timing is as impeccable and as convenient as when the school was put into special measures in November 2006.
Parents and governors have been largely excluded from everything that has been steamrollered through since, from the dodgy plans for the building of a new “not-fit-for-purpose” school, (involving a possible misprocurement of contract rushed through to avoid the current building being listed in November) to the sham consultation regarding a proposed and unwanted change to academy status.
Parents have been ignored, teachers treated appallingly, and our kids have been stuck like pawns in the middle of a Westminster biased and grotesque political game, with Westminster upsetting the board with apparent glee.
However, the Pimlico anti-academy battle continues, as a substantive hearing has been granted for appeal, and the longed-for judicial review may still be a possibility.
A huge thank you to all Pimlico’s teachers who have been so professional continuing to work brilliantly despite being under so much pressure, and in spite of the imposed interim management team and unreasonably short lunchbreak. Georgina Schueller
