West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 25 July 2008
Save paper, save trees
• I APPLAUD the local planning and licensing team for working so diligently to protect and preserve my local environment. I have just received notification that a certain tree near my flat is now officially protected by a tree preservation order.
In the spirit of true diplomacy, I have been given the opportunity to object should I feel so inclined. Similarly so, this right has been afforded to “the owner/occupier of the affected land and neighbouring properties”.
How have Camden Council notified us of this? An 18-page document with a one-page covering letter and thick brown envelope. Each page was printed only on one side.
To notify all those concerned, I imagine many such packages would have been sent out. The irony is quite amazing but, sadly, not beyond belief.
How nice to know that the council are so conscientious in their work that reams of chemically bleached paper printed only on one side will be used to save a tree. Keep up the good work guys! NO COHEN
