West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 8 August 2008
What’s so special?
• LET us consider the following:
An ITN reporter is shot dead by an American weapon while reporting in Iraq, yet, despite a coroner’s damning judgment, no effort has been forthcoming from US authorities to assist bringing the culprit of this brutal unlawful killing to justice.
Yet when a computer hack reduces the US authorities to a set of red faces, our House of Lords votes to send the accused back to that country, never mind that its president and his henchmen endorse kidnapping and torture – or that our own Crown Prosecution Service has declined to prosecute him for offences apparently committed here in the UK
The “special relationship” is truly a one-sided farce. Mark Newberry
