Fun action from Zoo Nation |
All the Olympic action from Beijing on a giant screen in the square
If you didn’t get a ticket to Beijing, don’t despair.
If you’re a discerning armchair sports fan or maybe you just want a piece of the action, look no further than Trafalgar Square.
A giant screen is being erected at the foot of Nelson’s Column that will broadcast uninterrupted coverage of the games, every day from 8am to 9pm, starting with the opening ceremony today (Friday). From the team dressage to the men’s air rifle, the steeplechase to the shot-putt, not one medal chance will be missed. And if all that sport gets you running, hopping and jumping, and you need a time-out, there will be some respite in the shape of a packed programme of street theatre. Every week will see a specially commissioned performance. The opening week will focus on Beijing, with live performances from collaborating UK and Chinese artists including the renowned Flying Dragon Circus. In the second week the theme is aspiration, which puts youth at the centre of the show. Look out for a hip-hop meets lindy-hop performance from one of the capital’s hottest dance acts Zoo Nation. In the final week performances will focus on home-grown talent.
