West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 15 August 2008
Parking mad
• IT is outrageous that while trying to ease congestion Westminster City Council comes up with this extortion (Chains that bind the hapless city motorcyclist, Letters, August 8).
At least eight motorbikes can park in one car parking space making the equivalent parking cost for a car £1,200 and that is to park anywhere in the area not some distant bay that is usually full up in any case. Meanwhile the council goes to great expense installing electric car-charging bays and then levies £150 a year for unlimited charging and parking. Surely this is a much greater cost than changing a sign? An electic car does nothing to ease congestion and is nowhere near as environmentally friendly as a moped. James Wright
