West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 22 August 2008
Praise indeed, but no pizzas
• I WAS puzzled to read your story on the report produced by Westminster’s Secondary School Achievement Task Group in which you claim the council believes “school children should be rewarded for turning up to lessons with free pizza lunches” (Can pizza aid exam results?, August 15). We did not make any such recommendation. The only reference to “pizza” in the report was in relation to a school that took out the form with the best attendance and punctuality record for pizza at the end of the year.
Achieving and maintaining excellent educational standards across Westminster is one of the council’s primary concerns and I am hopeful that some, if not all, of the recommendations in the report will be implemented.
I am disappointed that you felt it necessary to trivialise such an important issue.
Cllr NICKIE ALLEN
Chairman of the Secondary School Achievement in Westminster Task Group
