People propping up sick system
• THE financial crisis seems to be a signal for government to make people pay for capitalism’s inability to solve its own problems. The rule that the market decides the future fortunes of its players no longer stands.
Not satisfied with exploiting the people through wage labour, it is bent on using the country’s wealth to rescue a sick system.
The grants to Metronet didn’t stop the group failing the public or save it from collapse, but shareholders did receive large profits.
If you bet on a horse and it doesn’t come in, you lose your money. Not with Northern Rock, where New Labour back a loser with our money. Compare this with how it treats its poorer citizens, breaking promises on the fuel grant while it lets utilities make massive rate increases.
The government attacks workers’ wage claims to protect their present standard of living, while wasting millions and tens of thousands of lives in the illegal war in Iraq.
