Student Fiona Ramford protests near Oxford Street in a transparent outfit |
‘We can see through top labels’
STUDENT activists gatecrashed a top fashion show to protest against the sweatshop conditions that blight the industry.
Dressed in transparent clothing to highlight what they say is a lack of openness in the production of some of the UK’s high street stores’ clothing, the students staged their own catwalk sideshow.
The demonstration took place outside Topshop on Oxford Street – the store which the campaigners are calling on to join the fashion industry’s Ethical Trading Initiative.
Jim Cranshaw, who masterminded the stunt on Sunday said: “The fashion industry needs greater transparency throughout the supply chain so consumers can be sure that standards for the workers making their clothes are fair and decent.” |
