Children at St James’s enjoy their pirate party |
Sixteen toddlers on a dead man’s chest in library pirate party
FEARSOME pirates have always made for great stories.
Tales of buried treasure, bloody mutinies and castaway capers kept children at St James’s library as rapt as Jim Hawkins under the spell of Long John Silver last week as part of National Bookstart Day.
Under-fives were invited to the pirate parties across Westminster libraries to highlight the facilities that are on offer for younger readers.
Normally quiet, the silence was broken by sea shanties and a few “arrr me hearties”, but the librarians could live with that for a day.
Councillor Audrey Lewis, cabinet member for customers and neighbourhoods, said: “Our libraries are a valuable resource for every resident and visitor to Westminster, with books and activities to suit all ages and interests.” |
