West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 21 November 2008
Keep the hospital name by signing the petition
• I WHOLE heartedly support the comments of Nicolas Potter concerning the site of the former Middlesex Hospital (Call it Middlesex Square, Letters November 14). I trained as a nurse at the Middlesex and, like many former employees, was horrified by its demolition and appalled by the fact that the developers have since walked away.
The idea of rebranding the community Noho, and the Mortimer Street site as Noho Square, just adds insult to injury.
Residents of Fitzrovia and other concerned citizens may be interested to know that an online petition, calling on Westminster City Council to rename the site Middlesex Hospital Square has been started.
The hope is that the council will pre-empt any future rebranding and recognise the invaluable contributions of the Middlesex both to medicine and to the surrounding communities.
There are currently more than 300 signatories from all over the world, ranging from local residents to former staff to celebrities.
I encourage all concerned Londoners to go to: www.gopetition.com/petitions/middlesex-hospital-square-petition.html
and sign the petition.
