Paying for bank blunder
•
AT a time when small businesses are under the cosh how on earth can Councillor Audrey Lewis possibly argue that a 1,000 per cent increase in the fees the council charges the three independent tennis coaches to use the Paddington Recreation Ground tennis courts is justified? Even in neighbouring true-blue Kensington and Chelsea the peak summer charges for tennis coaches are only £153 a month!
It is beggars belief how anyone who runs a council which was so incompetent that it invested £17 million in now-failed Icelandic banks has the nerve to now lecture us on financial matters.
Perhaps the reason for the 1,000 per cent increase in charges is that the tennis coaches are now, like the rest of us, having to pay price for the council’s financial incompetence.

Leader of the Labour Group
