Oxford Street murder victim finally named
A VIOLENT gang member who was stabbed to death in Oxford Street has been identified.
During the Old Bailey trial, the name of Steven Bigby was withheld from the media because his former associates were facing another jury – at Wood Green Crown Court – for rape.
Bigby, 22, of De Beauvoir Road, Islington, should have been in the dock with them.
At the time of his death he was on bail for the rape of a 16-year- old girl who had caustic soda poured over her by her assailants.
Three of the gang are now in custody awaiting sentence after being convicted of the attack on the girl, with a mental age of nine, at a house in North London.
Anthony Costa, who maintained he killed Bigby “by accident”, was cleared of murder by jurors last month, but was convicted of manslaughter and will be sentenced later this month.
Bigby died in front of hundreds of shoppers last May. Costa, from Walthamstow, denied murder. |
