On song! Choirs pack out church
THERE was standing room only at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden on Monday evening as more than 400 people swelled the pews for a special candlelit carol service.
A glutton of choirs – three in total – were in fine voice, romping through all the traditional carols under the watch of masterful conductor Ben Costello.
Pupils from St Clement Danes Primary School joined trebles from Shrewsbury House School to fill the church with angelic sounds for the annual event organised by the Covent Garden Community Association.
And there was no shortage of fuel for the singers, with enough mulled wine and mince pies to give Santa a serious stomachache.
Jo Weir, chairwoman of the Association, said: “In all the years we’ve done this event, it was the best one yet. You could hardly get in the church it was so packed. Ben was amazing. It’s not an easy job but they all sounded so good and clear. We must say a special thanks to Clement Danes because they sounded like professionals.” |
