Wizard from Oz: Handyman makes life a little easier

THERE has been a rare sighting of a didgeridoo-playing handyman in Westminster.
Rob Mantz has been recruited by the council to help elderly and disabled residents with their repairs.
An engineer by training, the native New Zealander, 44, learned to play the unusual instrument while working on drilling rigs in the Australian outback, although it’s not clear whether he keeps it in his toolbox.
He said: “Changing a lightbulb or fixing loose carpets might sound like simple tasks but the older you get the harder it can be to climb ladders or bend down low to do these things. I’m pleased I’ve got this opportunity to make people’s lives a little bit easier.”

The handyman service is for people aged 60 and over or on disability allowance who live in Queen’s Park or Harrow Road wards. Residents who wish to book an appointment with Rob can contact the council’s Home Improvement Agency on 020 7641 8959.
