Ideal Holmes! Police are urged to investigate what good books are at their local libraries

POLICE officers have become the target of a new campaign to get more bobbies visiting libraries.
And bets are already being taken on what will be officers’ favourites. Front-runners include Truman Copote’s In Cold Blood, the works of Agatha Christie and, for the slower readers on the force, The Hardy Boys should prove very popular.
Libraries chiefs at the council and police officers this week came together to re-enact a scene from the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel The Sign of Four which features a midnight chase down the Thames in a steamboat in which Sherlock Holmes narrowly escapes death.
Westminster houses a special Sherlock Holmes collection that includes stories, information about the author, photographs and newspaper cuttings.
Councillor Audrey Lewis, cabinet member for customers and neighbourhoods, said: “Public libraries are a vibrant resource, free to be used be people of all ages and professions across the city. We are extremely privileged to have such a wonderful Sherlock Holmes collection in Westminster which is an inspiration to all readers.”
