Mayor in the air! Brave councillor’s charity leap
THE Lord Mayor of Westminster has jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet for charity.
Councillor Louise Hyams swapped her gold chain and ceremonial robes for goggles and a parachute as she raised £5,000 for the charity For Dementia.
Cllr Hyams said: “I was very nervous when it was my turn to jump out of the plane, and I could see the ground far below, but once I was falling through the air it felt truly exhilarating.” She added: “I completed the jump in honour of my mother who suffers from this dreadful condition.”
Four others took part in the jump and a further £2,000 is due to be collected from them in charity donations.
