New Maxim's video shop in Frith Street |
Legal bid to close Soho video shop
A SHOP selling pornographic videos has defied the council’s sleaze busters by continuing to trade despite being issued with a closure notice for not possessing a valid licence.
Westminster City Council is now seeking a court order against the New Maxim’s Video Club in Frith Street (pictured) after discovering the store has been operating without the correct licence.
A sex shop licence costs £30,000 a year, compared with a normal trading licence which can cost as little as £200.
Technically the store can continue to do business until a court order is secured.
Over the last 10 years, the council claims to have closed down 51 sex shops.
They say there are just 15 remaining.
The store declined to comment. |
